Fifa has announced that Sven Goran Eriksson will have until June 9th to make a decision if Wayne Rooney is fit for the World Cup.
A FIFA spokesman told the Daily Telegraph: ‘Coaches will have players who are crucial to their team and who they hope will be fit in time for the tournament and this gives them a chance to recover fully right up to the beginning of their team’s World Cup.
‘That provision is there for any player, provided a medical certificate confirms the injury.’
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has told Eriksson the club will have the final say on whether Rooney goes to the World Cup after the Swede said he would give the striker ‘every chance’ to play in the finals.
