Germany are the first country to qualify to the next round after beating Poland 1-0 in a pulsating match in Dortmund.
Earlier in the day Saudi Arabia and Tunisa battled it our for a 2-2 draw.
In my opinion yesterday’s game was the best so far in this tournament, ened to end stuff from Germany and Poland as the Germans pressed for early qualification and Poland also pressing for their first win & to keep their hopes of qualifying for the next round alive.
There was nothing much to seperate the sides,they were pretty much evenly match,and Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc was in top form as he denied Klose,Podolski and co time after time.
And though Poland played the last 15 minutes of the game with 10 man,after Radoslaw Sobolewski was red carded in the 75th minute for a second bookable offence,you still had the feeling they could hold the Germans to a 0-0 draw or maybe even win it with a lucky break.
But alas that didn’t happen,and Poland now exits the World Cup knowing they played well,but yet not good enough to garner ther results required of them.
Oliver Neuville proved to be a super sub as he scored the winning goal thanks to a cross from another sub - David Odonkor.Odonkor breath life on the right wing when he arrived and his pacy run got the better of the Polish defenders in the end as his cross was beautifully met by the ‘old guard’ Neuville, to score the winning goal.
Miroslav Klose fialed to add to his tally of 2 goals,thanks largely to a magnificient Boruc in the Polish goal.
