Ruud Awakening for Ivory Coast
Holland held on to their 2-1 lead to progress to the next round, while unlucky Ivory Coast were shown the exit door.
I believe if Ivory Coast were in any other group besides group C,they would have progressed
to the next round,becuase they were by no means ‘minnows’ or ‘whipping boys’ after their matches against Argentina & Holland.
Thier style of play would have impressed many,i know they impressed me at least, and i truly
believe many of their players will be playing for top teams soon,keep an eye out for that ;).
In the end though,Robbie Van Persie & Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s goals sealed both theirs and Ivory Coast’s fate.Van Persie scored a fantastic free kick,one of the best i’ve seen thus far,took a page out of Beckham’s book ;).
Ruud’s goal,what can i say?..never give a person with his quality that much room and space,he’s bound to score, and Ivory Coast found out the hard way.I would say though,with the constant attack play that Ivory Coast displayed,they were unlucky to at least gained a draw,however Arsenal’s Toure would disagree with me,as he said luck had nothing to do with it.
Didier Drogba was one of Ivory Coast’s more prominent players,even producing some tricks here and there,but Drogba won’t be in the next game as he collected a late yellow card (his second) for challenge on Edwin van der Sar.
