Adriano

Brazil were by no means impressive in their second games in this world cup,yet they have booked thier place in the second round to face either Italy,Ghana or USA.

Two teams were tipped to go far in this tournament before it began -England and Brazil and yet
both this teams have produced below par performances but have mannaged to qualify for the next pahse, and the similarities doesn’t stop there as Brazil and England both won their first games 1-0 and their second 2-0,both have a 3 goal lead without conceeding a goal…quite a coincidence.

Anyway, back to yesterday’s game. The focus definitely was on Brazil, could they produce something special?could they delight the crowds once again?would Ronaldo score?,unfortunately
enough the answer was a big NO,even Ronaldinho seem to have had an off day,but maybe that was due to the Aussie’s ,who man marked him so hard,he just couldn’t strutt his stuff.

From the first whistle, the Socceroos went at it against mighty Brazil, there were no signs of fear or even respect for their illustrious opponents, and to my suprise Harry Kewell wasn’t in the starting line-up,he’s one of the main pillars of the Australian team, and he proved that when he came on later in the game and produced great crosses and could have even scored for the socceroos on many occassions.

And for the first time in Brazilian history, Brazil failed..i repeat FAILED to get even 1 single shot on goal for the first 45 minutes!,that’s simply amazing..when was the last time you saw any other team failing to get a single shot at goal?.
Than there was Ronaldo, many things were said of him before the game, and you felt this was the best game for him to prove his critics wrong, but nope…his critics were very right,he was just inmobile, missed a great chance in the first half, didn’t produce anything special, and YES..he was just plain old FAT.

‘Fatty-do’

Than came the second half, brazil started brightly and scored in the 49th minute thanks to an Adriano goal, and suprise suprise it was Ronaldo that provided him the chance..the only telling display from the former world player of the year, who hopefully doesnt start in the next game, because as soon as he was substituted in the 72nd minute for Robinho, brazil begun showing some former brilliance, all becuase Robinho has speed & pace, and that seem to trigger the other players into action especially Kaka and Cafu on the right flank.

Brazil continued to dominate possession but it was not until Australia threw off their defensive inhibitions in the final 15 minutes that the chances began to come - and then they were at both ends.

Kaka headed against the bar and Adriano sent an overhead kick skimming wide. But Bresciano’s curling free-kick gave Brazilian fans a scare before Mark Viduka’s lob landed on the roof of the net with goalkeeper Dida beaten and fearing the worst.

The cruel twist came right at the end for Australia when Robinho struck a post, allowing Fred to tape home a second goalBrazil scarcely deserved after being on the field a mere 2 minutes.
