Game 1

Stadium: Olympiastadion, Berlin, Germany

The host Germany take on Argentina

Klose

Miroslav Klose seems to be in bouyant mood as he suggested that it was ‘bad luck’ for Argentina to be playing against Germany so early on.

Bad luck?…errr didn’t he meant the other way round? Is it Octoberfest already?..he must have had some drinks before making that statement.

No, i don’t agree that it’s bad luck for Argentina, both teams are rather evenly matched, but Argentina has endured pressure on their defence from Holland,Ivory Coast and Mexico and in all those 3 matches they came out top, except for a rare poor display by Heinze against the Mexicans.

Germany on the other hand..who has really tested them? my mind goes back to the opening game - Germany v.s Costa Rica, the way Wanchope easily scored against the Germans shoul be a worry…so Mr.Klose,it’s definitely not bad luck for them.

But than again Germany have been impressive going foward with Klose netting in 4 goals and Podolski gaining confidence as the tournament pregresses,Phillip Lahm, Per Mertesacker, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Bastian Schweinsteiger have also been contributed greatly to the German cause.

Argentina on the other hand seem to be playing their cards well, trying as much as possible not to play Messi,Tevez and Aimar all three are possible match winners, but really they didn’t need to play those cards when players like Crespo,Rodríguez,Ayala,Riquelme and Saviola are all playing so well.

So the question boils down to who will win this match?

Sincerely i think both will give each other problems and this match could very well go inot extra time or even penalties. No matter how this game is decided i believe that Argentina will go through, they have so many individual players that can change the game in split seconds.

Game 2

Stadium: AOL-Arena, Hamburg, Germany

Plucky Italians against suprise package Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Andriy Shevchenko will be coming up against familiar opponents having played with or against all of them in Serie A.

A matter of concern for the Ukranians are that Shevchenko’s strike partner Voronin has been ruled out of the World Cup with thigh injury.

Shevchenko in the mean time had other things on his mind as he decided to tell the italians ‘we are hard to beat’…pfffttt…yeah right :P .

Anywayz back to the match preview, the Italians have been labelled ‘lucky’ to make it this far thanks to their late..late penalty against the gritty Socceroos, now let me say this, yes they were lucky but remember they played most of the match with 10 men and their holding midfield man Gatusso was on a yellow card, hence the Aussie’s took the game to the Italians, also considering that really the Aussie team had nothing to lose, reaching the second round was a good achievement in itself while as for the Italians much more was expected of them.

They played their cards and hey presto!, there are in the quater finals where it’s a whole new ball game and where past results doesn’t really matter anymore..it’s about the now.

Even without Nesta the Italians should pregress to the semis where they will meet either Germany or Argentina.

I hope they play ‘pippo’ Inzaghi rather than Luca Toni in this match..the cunning pippo might just make the differece for the Italians.
