Nobody would have guessed that Brazil would be ousted by the French…no..not the way they did,for France proved all their critics wrong, raised their game, played the right tactics, imposed their style on the Brazilians and perfectly outplayed their illustrious opponents.
They were on top in every department -defence - midfield - foward, so much so that Fabien Barthez in the French goal had i would say his easiest game yet.Brazil the reigning champions and odds on favourite to retain their crown rarely ever attacked the french goalmouth.a suprising fact considering they started with a more attacking midfield line up of Gilberto Silva -Kaka - Ze Roberto - Juninho, and they even brought on Adriano & Robinho, that meant for the second half they had the likes of Ronaldo,Ronaldinho,Adriano & Robinho on the field and they couldn’t even muster a decent shot at goal much less a goal itself.
Shocking stats for a reigning Champ, even more shocking that this was the mighty Brazil facing a much older French team.
Raymond Domenech deserves praise for molding such a talented side but he had a helping hand with the return of the ‘old guards’ in Zidane,Thuram & Makelele.
Zidane ended the game as Man Of The Match, deservedly so i would say, his cross found the *gulp* unmarked *gulp* Henry in the 57th minute who cooly volleyed the ball into the roof of the net.
Unmarked Henry?!!!!! come on, even Moldova knows how potent Henry can be!, i guess Gilberto Silva didn’t warn his fellow Brazilians.
France almost made it 2-0 when Ribery drilled the ball across the goal and Juan, in an attempt to clear, almost scored an own goal.
Henry also almost set up Ribery but his shot was blocked by the onrushing goalkeeper Dida.

Lucio was then booked for a crude foul on Henry with Brazil, even after the introduction of Adriano, looking out of ideas and then Cicinho came on for Cafu and Robinho for Kaka.

Substitute Louis Saha, released by Zidane, forced a save from Zidane and Barthez beat away a Ronaldo shot.
The final whistle signalled a deserved French victory and further delayed the retirement of Zidane, who must now be dreaming of a golden farewell.
My regret is that now we wont be seeing anymore scantily clad brazilians Ronaldinho skills..in fact he never really got his game going in this tournament..which is a bummer.
France will now meet Portugal in the semis as the Portugese got rid of England in an earlier match.
This has been the upsets of upsets the shocker of shocks the sambal to the petai….anytime Brazil lose it will always be a shock..much more so when they lose without scoring……….
