South African Benni McCarthy has joined Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

I think this is quite a good catch for Rovers, i’ve seen Benni play many times and have always been impressed, especially his performance against Man Utd in 2004 with Porto who were at that time managed by none other that the “special one” Jose Mourinho.

McCarthy signed a four-year contract with Rovers.

“We tried to sign Benni 12 months ago and have been tracking the situation since then,” Blackburn chairman John Williams told the club’s website.

“We are delighted that we have managed to bring him to Rovers.” McCarthy, 28, helped Porto to their Champions League title in 2004 but had been trying to engineer a move to England since manager Jose Mourinho left to take over at Chelsea.
