Michael Carrick
Manchester United have made their first buy of the close season in capturing Tottenham Hotspur’s
Michael Carrick for £15million.

While all the buzz is on the depature of Ruud Van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid, Sir Alex decided to make use of the extra cash to lure Carrick to United. This will certainly please the United faithfull as they now may have found the long term solution to succed Roy ‘Keano’ Keane.

That however hasn’t stopped Ferguson from focusing on another midfield man, in fact there are strong rumors that Man Utd are about to raid Brazil club Corinthians for the services of Argentinian duo Javier Mascherano & Carlos Tevez.

Carrick

Carrick will complete his move to Old Trafford on Monday after agreeing personal terms and completing a medical.

Carrick, who turned 25 yesterday, rejected a new deal at Spurs to join United.

The former West Ham midfielder had two years left on his current Spurs contract but brought negotiations to halt and admitted he wanted to leave the club for United.

Tottenham fought hard to keep Carrick after they dismissed United’s initial offer of £10million earlier this summer.

But the player’s request to leave for United left the club in a no-win situation.

However, Jol now has the chance to meet Wigan’s valuation of Chimbonda after they turned down Tottenham’s initial £2million offer.

The defender is due to return to Wigan this weekend and has not changed his mind about moving after handing in a transfer request last May.

The 27-year-old is determined to move to a bigger club despite Wigan boss Paul Jewell admitting he is ready to offer the player a lucrative new deal in an effort to keep him.

Ironically Man Utd lost 2-1 to Preston North End in a friendly tie today.
