Carrick will sign for the Old Trafford club later on Monday providing he passes a medical and Tottenham have confirmed the agreement of the fee with United which will rise to £18.6million if Carrick does as well as Sir Alex Ferguson expects.
Only Rio Ferdinand, Juan Sebastian Veron, Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy have cost more.
But, while some Red Devils supporters are seriously underwhelmed by Carrick’s imminent arrival - especially coming just 72 hours after Van Nistelrooy’s unveiling as a Real Madrid star - Ferguson sees the 25-year-old’s capture as confirmation United remain as attractive as they always have.
One down…hopefully two more to go..next on the list is appreantly Villarreal’s Marcos Senna who seems likely to join Carrick as United’s new reinforcement.
