The last time we watched Rooney in a competitve game he was red carded…and today he was red carded again, a straight red against FC Porto in the Ajax Tournament.

But before he was sent off he scored a very sensational goal, united’s second goal in the game by applying a deft touch to chip the Porto keeper,Scholes had earlier put united ahead.

And more suprisingly United ended the game 3-1 winners but with only 9 man on the field as Scholes was also red carded in the 67th minute after making a very rash and needless challenge.

The England man was stunned to see the red card brandished in his face once more - just as it was the last time he faced Portuguese opposition in the World Cup just over a month ago.

Reds manager Sir Alex Ferguson was clearly furious with the referee’s dubious decision but Rooney had no choice but to head for the dressing room after waiting in vain to see the incident again on the giant TV screen.
