Owen Hargreaves seems to be the only person (or publicly at least) suprised at Steve Mcclaren’s decision to omit Becks from the English lineup against Greece on Wednesday.

“It is strange for me because ever since I’ve been involved since 2001, Becks has been here, he’s been the captain and he’s obviously been the focal point of the team,” Hargreaves told a news conference at a training session on Monday.
“I was surprised. I’m not the manager and I don’t pick the team (but) I had a great time playing with Becks.”

Ironically it is Hargreaves who could benefit from the situation after gaining the title “best player” in the World Cup for England and impressing the English fans with his displays, especially the game against Portugal.

That performance has also alerted many English clubs of the potential of the 25-year-old and a raid of Bayern Munich by Manchester United seemed to be on the cards for the past few weeks but no progress has been made so far.

The Bayern Munich player was guarded about media reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.
“In football, anything is possible,” said Hargreaves. “You have seen that in the past and the transfer deadline is not until Aug. 31.
