Holland’s Dirk Kuyt has turned down a £90,000 a week offer from Newcastle to join premiership rivals Liverpool.
Rafa Benitez will now have a healthy amount of fowards in Crouch,Kuyt,Bellamy,Fowler and Sinama Pongelle.
Although the deal hasn’t officially gone through, Kuyt has made it clear that a move to Liverpool would be a ‘dream move’ and is said The Reds have agreed a £10million transfer fee with Feyenoord.
This will be a mighty blow to Newcastle who had been chasing the foward since the World Cup with Toon boss Glenn Roeder visiting Lansdowne Road on Wednesday night to see him in action against the Republic of Ireland.
It will be even more painful as Roeder revealed that star foward Michael Owen might not even feature at all this season.Owen tore his knee ligaments during this summer’s World Cup and will return to America next month for a second operation.
Initial reports claimed that Owen would require a further six months to recuperate but, speaking on a Newcastle radio phone-in, Roeder admitted he could not be sure that the 26-year-old would return at any stage during the forthcoming campaign.
