Real Madrid club president Ramon Calderon says he expects the transfers of Reyes from Arsenal and Olympique Lyon midfielder Mahamadou Diarra to go through in the next few days.
Calderon also stated that new coach Fabio Capello feels Diarra is the essential key in rebuilding a Madrid side that have not won a single throphy in the past 4 seasons.
‘We are missing Diarra but we are going to do everything we can to sign him,’ Calderon said. ‘On Capello’s orders our efforts will be concentrated on getting Diarra.
However regarding the transfer of Reyes, Calderon was quoted as saying that Madrid will not waste a euro to persuade Arsenal to part with the young spanish foward, laying the ball at Arsenal’s feet.
‘Reyes will come only if Arsenal meet our conditions. I’m not going to waste a euro. I feel sorry for the lad if the deal doesn’t come off, but we have no arrangement with Reyes to sign him at all costs. Arsenal will have the last word.’
