It couldn’t get any better than that as Manchester United strolled to a 5-1 victory at the theatre of dreams.

Louis Saha officiated the route with a brilliantly taken header from a Ryan Giggs cross after only 7 minutes.United fans were delirious especially with the knowledge that the previous day, sides like Arsenal and Liverpool struggled against their respective opponents and could only manage a draw, but this was to be a bright day for United indeed.

Ironically Saha scored 2 goals at Old Trafford 5 years ago when he made his Premiership debut with Fulham, but this time around he was the cause of Fulham’s misery.United totally controlled the game from the first whistle so much so that another former Fulham player -Edwin Van der Sar had practically nothing to do at all.

In under 20 first half minutes United were 4-0 up, even i found it hard to believe, United were displaying some scintaling form and it is a shame and disgrace that star man Rooney and Scholes will not feature in the next 3 games.Ian Pearce was the unluckiest Fulham player of the day as he scored an own goal at the stroke of 15 minutes to bolster United’s lead, there was nothing he could do though as he tried to outmuscle Rooney from a Saha cross only to deflect it into his own net.

Saha was heavily involved in the third too, meeting a Gary Neville cross with an acrobatic volley Antti Niemi did well to keep out, only for Rooney to sidefoot home the rebound.

If the rumors still persist that Rooney and Ronaldo are at loggerheads with each other than they would have fooled us all as Rooney delivered a sublime cross to Ronaldo to score United’s 3rd and Ronaldo’s first goal since his penalty shot at the World Cup and what a beauty it was, a half-volley strike that was sweetly taken.

Wayne Rooney completed the route with his second goal after a cut-back from Wes Brown.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also made an appearance much to the Utd faithful’s delight with chants of Ole..Ole..Ole being echoed all around the Premiership record 75,000 crowd.

I was particularly impressed with the performance of Patrice Evra who seemed to performed well and might have given Sir Alex food for thought even if Gabriel Heinze was available for selection.

All around it was a performance that was needed and they did it with a squad from last season with no new signings in their ranks.

In the meantime Wayne Rooney is bemoaning his ban after a 5 star performance today.

He said: ‘I was devastated with the ban, especially with the start we’ve had today.’
