
It was far from a comfortable win as Watford just refused to lie down but it was a win nonetheless as Man Utd continued their impressive early season form to maintain their 100% record and to stay top of the table.
United began the game in tatters as the ‘Hornets’ begun their assult early on, maybe United expected an easier game against the newly promoted side but that was not to be as Watford maintained their dignity with an impressive performance throughout the 90 minutes.
Despite their early pressure on the United goal, Watford were stung themselves as Mikael Silvestre who recently signed a 4 year contract extension got the visitors the lead after some brilliant moves involving Giggs and Louis Saha in the 13th minute.
The Hornets though didn’t just give in and credit to them as Damien Francis
put them on level terms 10 minutes before the break thanks to a moment of brilliance by Ashley Young who tricked his way past Silvestre on the right and drove the ball low across the face of goal where Francis, whose run from midfield had gone untracked, tapped in his second goal in three matches since his summer move from Wigan.

Michael Carrick made his first start for United since his £18.6million move from Tottenham earlier in the summer but pretty much had a mellow game in the middle of the park.Cristiano Ronaldo continues his recent good from with yet another telling display despite playing away from home and being constantly booed by the away fans.
Richard Lee in the Watford goal made his first appreance this season due to the fact that Ben Foster wasn’t allowed to play against his club (Foster is on loan from United) and produced some top notch saves from Saha and Giggs.
The second half Watford begun brightly with no evidence of fear of their much superior opponents but they were given a lesson in the Premiership, a lesson of how to take your chances well.In the 51st minute the Hornets were given a freekick which was taken by Marlon King and was deflected and how in the world Darius Henderson missed from close range with keeper Edwin van der Sar stranded will be a mystery to me.
They were made to pay for letting united off the hook just 60 seconds later as Giggs pounced on a under-hit back pass evaded the goalkeeper and drove the ball into the empty net with his right foot.
Watford won a number of free-kicks and throw-ins in dangerous areas, as well as corners, but they could not make them count as United held firm in defence.Louis Saha failed to killed off the spirited Watford in the 88th minute after a superb pass by Giggs as Lee made a good save to deny the Frenchman.
In the end United won 2-1 and remain on top of the table as their rivals Arsenal lost suprisingly 1-0 to Man City thanks to a Joey Barton penalty.Chelsea are also already under pressure being 6 points behind United with a game in hand.
Liverpool also nothced a victory against West Ham thanks to goals from new boy Agger and Crouch.Daniel Agger scored a a cracker from 35 yards.
