Despite moving away from Old Trafford to Real Madrid in the summer it seems that Ruud Van Nistelrooy is still bitter towards Sir Alex Ferguson. One would imagine that the player would forget about it and move foward with his new club..but not Van Nistelrooy!
The Holland international left Old Trafford for Real Madrid in the summer in a £10.5million transfer following a highly-publicised rift with the United boss and now calims that he was “stab in the back” by Ferguson for leaving him out for the full 90 minutes of Man Utd’s triumph over Wigan in the Carling cup final back in February.
Van Nistelrooy said: ‘The first three-quarters of last season went well for me but the final part is best forgotten.
‘My situation with Sir Alex started to change and it became difficult for me and him to work together.
‘I had previously had a marvellous relationship with him. But in February we played the Carling cup final against Wigan and I remained on the bench for the full 90 minutes.
‘To me this felt like a stab in the back.’
Now i would agree that it didn’t end as best as it could but does that really constitute a stab in the back? do take note that Saha was on impressive form at that moment and had featured prominently in the Carling cup and if memory serves me right i believe Ferguson used the opportunity to give playing time to new recruits Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic in the Carling Final.
Rooney with Saha up front till the end without RVN playing..is that really a stab in the back? or is RVN’s memory not that capable of taking him way back 6 years ago when Sir Alex stood by him when he suffered a nasty injury and actually waited 1 whole year before signing him..in affect giving him the opportunity to play with a big club in the big leagues even though he really didn’t deserve it at that moment.Sure everybody now can say that Ruud is a great stiker..but he did make his name with United, before that he was merely just another dutch player with potential.
I think stab in the back is too strong a word to use especially on someone who gave him his big break…if he said he was dissapointed than i would agree..anyone would be disappointed at being left out of the final…but stab in the back?…i’m sorry Ruud..your quite wrong.
