peter crouch
I’ve been saying in the forums that Rafa Benitez should be playing Bellamy and Crouch up front instead of Kuyt and today Crouch was simply brilliant for Liverpool and hopefully Benitez will stop his tinkering for a while.

If you missed this game, than probably you’ve missed one of the better games you’ll see this season in the Champions League, it was simply magnificient end to end attacking stuff.Liverpool always look fantastic when club captain Steven Gerrard plays in the middle and they proved that once again tonight with Gerrard controlling the midfield for the Reds as Peter Crouch was handed his first start after 4 games on the bench.

Crouch didn’t take long to show Benitez that he should be a starter when he as cool as ever slotted in the ball into the back of the net after a superb cross from the left by Fabio Aurelio.
It took Liverpool just 5 minutes later to double their advantage after Jermaine Pennant capitalise on a mistake by the visiting team’s defence to supply a cross past the advancing goalie,Farid Mondragon, for Luis Garcia to head home into an unguarded net.

Galatasaray had no answer to Liverpool’s dominance, although Sabri Sarioglu was really good at the right side, supplying crosses into the middle which somehow eluded all the strikers.

As the second half began the coach of Galatasaray made two changes and brought on Hasan Sas and Umit Karan, and what a switch it was as Karan went on to score a brace.

But before Karan found himself on the scoresheet, a certain tall englishman -Crouch scored what is currently the best goal of this season’s Champions League with a stunningly well-executed scissors kick after Steve Finnan delivered the ball in from the right.

However 7 minutes later Umit Karan headed in a goal for Galatasaray to cause a moment of panic for the Reds fans who must have thought they were cruising all the way, and just six minutes later Karan yet again scored with a header and this time around even Benitez was shaken as he brought on defensive minded Mohamed Sissoko on for Pennant.

It was all out attacking play by the visiting team from than on, but they were unlucky with their final touch and sometimes sloppy, so in the end Liverpool wins the game 3-2.
