Top of the table in the Premier League and in Europe, who would have guessed that at the start of the season especially as Man Utd have not made any major signings besides Michael Carrick and allowing Ruud Van Nistelrooy to leave for Madrid.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s man knew that winning today would ensure that they put one leg into the next round, but the day began with a little bad news as Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs (who had been slotted to play in this game) pulled out with minor injuries, probably with the weekend game against Liverpool in mind.
Louis Saha could have written his name in the record books had he scored for Utd as early as the 20th second…yes..seconds! not even a minute into the game a superb through pass by Rooney found Saha who could only see his shot saved by Copenhagen’s goalkeeper, who was in fine form throughout the game.

Rooney was on sensational form even though he didn’t score a goal today, i can truly see him coming back to his ruthless form slowly but surely, and best of all he was made captain for this game by Sir Alex as Gary Neville sat out the game, again in consideration of the weekend game.
Utd completely dominated the game and should have gone ahead much earlier than they did but the visiting team’s goalkeeper was on top form, producing top draw saves form Saha, Ronaldo and Rooney.
Paul Scholes changed all of that in the 39th minute as he struck a shot into the corner leaving Jesper Christiansen with no chance at all.
Things only got better form then on for Utd but in truth Copenhagen were no push overs either and made some shots on goal themselves but never really tested Van Der Sar.Copenhagen must have been relieved to hear the whistle as the referee signalled the end of the first half.

The second half couldn’t have begun any worst for Copenhagen as they were futher behind when John O Shea tapped in the ball, and according to replays O Shea almost had nothing to do with it, he definitely didn’t intend on scoring that way but the ball hit his left knee before bobbling in past Jerper.

Alan Smith and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer laso made an appreance but it was another substitute who stole the limelight, Kieran Richardson knocking in Utd’s third goal of the night thanks to a moment of error from Jesper Christiansen as Richardson fierce shot trickled it’s way into the net.
Utd will now need only a draw against Copenhagen to completely assure themselves a place in the next round and most probably Celtic will accompany them as they beat Benfica also 3-0 today.
