After all the criticism he has received since his move from AC Milan,Andriy Shevchenko has finally scored a goal at Stamford Bridge, will there be more to come…will the floodgates be burst opened? I somehow doubt that, for this season at least.

Shevchenko and Ballack made their mark today with a blazing 2 minutes strike that saw them not only win against Portsmouth but also head up back to the top of the table albeit temporary if Man Utd can summon a win against the Reds tommorow.

Pompey’s Benjani Mwaruwari scored a goal in the 69th minute that ensured the game would continue with a little more drama after Chelsea had threaten to run riot after the two quickfire goals.

It was nice to see Joe Cole making his comeback and he is definitely needed if not for Chelsea than at least for England. To tell you the truth i was never ever impressed by David James before, i always knew he was a butterfinger and having a nickname like ‘Calamity James’ didn’t help improved his image either but he did produced some really good saves especially in the first half from Arjen Robben that ensured the game ended with a relatively competitive scoreline.

Michael Ballack also burst his goal drought with a simple header after Didier Drogba’s cushioned header found him unmarked, he just needed to guide the ball in past James and that’s exactly what he did.Ballack however also received a yellow card for his excessive celebration as did Shevchenko 2 minutes before him.

Pompey rarely look like they were going to get anything out of this game and their star player Kanu was also rather subdued throughout the game, in fact in my opinion he looked sickly..what’s up with that?.

Anywayz in the end it was a 2-1 win for Chelsea which propeled them to the top of the table.

P.S A special note to my readers who are celebrating Diwali, Happy Diwali to you and have a nice day ahead. ;)
