Return of the Becks…might just be on the cards as for the first time ever Steve Mcclaren has said that he is considering recalling the former captain.
Mcclaren has replaced Becks with Spurs Aaron Lennon, going for speed and pace rather than experience on the right flank, but it now seems that he is ready to revert back and give Beckham a place in the squad.
Ever since McClaren succeeded Sven-Goran Eriksson after last summer’s disappointing World Cup, a central policy of the new man’s managerial manifesto has been that Beckham, the symbol of the Eriksson era, was history.
Young Hotspur was the new king of England. The case for pace had prevailed. Many of McClaren’s players privately agreed. Beckham’s fitness and effectiveness were debated in the dressing-room.
