Well well well, it looks like a busy summer for Liverpool and Man Utd, with Chelsea doing some free transfer signings. Can Arsenal keep up? Is Eduardo and Sagna good enough? Tevez will be monster for Man Utd, Torres will flop for Liverpool & Malouda will do well with Chelsea.
The strongest hints of Wenger putting pen to paper was the post-match conference recently, the win over Barnet. This was what the professor said;
“I have shown my commitment in the past and I never worry about the weather. My future is not only linked with the players, but the whole club. It is to the fans and the young players who I have brought and told I will look after them, so it’s a much bigger picture than that. You will see soon if I sign a new contract.”
It’s the first time Arsenal fans have heard from him since the sale of Henry. Eduardo has some big shoes to fill. I don’t think he will ever eclipse Thierry Henry, though his resume of goals galore from the Croatian league is mouthwatering. He will be put to the test, but one thing’s for sure, I’m glad Arsenal signed Eduardo instead of Torres.
As for Sagna, well, obviously this signing will re-position Eboue (who has been superb in attack) to the right midfield, thus not requiring Wenger to find a Ljungberg replacement. A top 4 finish is on the cards once again. As for winning the EPL title in 2008, that may be pushing it.
It’s a 2 horse race between Man Utd and Chelsea yet again, and Liverpool will flatter to deceive as usual. One more month to go!
