wayne rooney Man Utd has suffered an early blow in defending their title as it was confirmed today that Wayne Rooney will be our for at least 2 months after he suffered a hairline fracture of his left foot against Reading on sunday.

He will miss England’s Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia plus at least United’s next eight Premier League encounters and opening two Champions League group games.

The incident occurred near the end of the opening period when Rooney fired a low cross from Michael Carrick just over the crossbar.

In attempting to make a tackle, Michael Duberry accidentally trod on Rooney’s foot.

It was clear instantly Rooney had a problem, as he went down and removed his boot. Although he was able to continue briefly, he did not reappear for the second half.

Utd already have a capable replacement in Carlos Tevez, but will United make another move in the transfer market for a striker? maybe a loan deal for a striker with Premiership experience or just maybe the reappearance of Henrik Larsson?

I think if Utd don’t get a win agaisnt Portsmouth this wednesday than just maybe Sir Alex will be pondering a little harder and since the transfer market is still open he might make a move.
