What a start it has been for the much hyped Tottenham Hotspurs, they lost their first game to Sunderland in the dying minutes which resulted in Martin Jol making some changes in the team by starting Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent agasint Everton, however it backfired as Everton defeated Spurs 3-1.
Within three minutes the absence of the injured Ledley King and Michael Dawson was already felt, as Arteta swung in a pacy free-kick into the heart of the Spurs area, and Lescott managed to evade the attentions of Gardner to head home from point blank range.
The reaction, perhaps fuelled by an unhappy home support, was immediate. Spurs threw men forward at every opportunity and encamped themselves in the Everton half, with Jermaine Jenas and Robbie Keane looking to provide the ammunition for Berbatov and Bent in attack.
Bent thought he had found a quick-fire equaliser moments later after firing home from Berbatov’s pull-beck, but a pass from Keane in the build up had been delayed for too long and the Bulgarian had strayed offside.
