Tottenham Hotspurs got their season back on track with a comfortable 4-0 over newly promoted Derby County, former Fulham star Steed Malbranque was the hero of the day with two goals, his first goals for the club.
Before the game started there were rumors that Martin Jol had a crisis meeting after their second defeat and he might be replaced at White Hart Lane had his side lost to Derby last night but things got off to a beautiful start for Jol and his team as Malbranque found the net just before the 2nd minute and added to his tally a few minutes later with Jermaine Jenas scoring Spurs third goal all within 15 minutes of the first-half.
The second half didn’t possess quite the same excitement as the first as Spurs took their foot of the pedal a little. Derby slowly discovered their own passing game and a good spell was capped with a corking dive from Gary Teale that Robinson did well to palm away.
Adel Taarabt entered the fray in the 71st minute and the skilful Frenchman had both sets of fans cheering within a minute as he pulled off a circus routine of around 13 step-overs followed by a dreadful pass straight out of play.
Spurs’ stand-in skipper Keane made way for Jermain Defoe on 76 minutes who, as always, looked lively and keen to unleash his shooting boots.
But it was Bent who got his name on the score sheet in the 79th minute when he nodded home Pascal Chimbonda’s header across goal.
