It’s such a pity that 30-year-old Mikael Silvestre has sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Everton.Personally i’ve never rated him as a defender, he always seems to make mistakes at the back although he’s pretty good coming foward, what makes this news even worst is that United does not have a natural cover for the leftback position for Patrice Evra after the departure of Gabriel Heinze to Real Madrid and with John O’Shea out after suffering an injury during international week.
While England players seems to suffer from the dreaded metatarsal, Man Utd players on the other hand seemed to be cursed with the dreaded cruciate ligament injury,Park Ji-Sung and England keeper Ben Foster are both at different stages of recovery from cruciate ligament surgery, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer announced his retirement this month after failing to recover from a long-term knee complaint.
Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Silvestre would be sent for a scan as soon as his team arrived back in Manchester and the results have only confirmed the United manager’s worst fears.
A club official confirmed the extent of the damage and a recovery timetable which means Silvestre will not be seen again for the remainder of the campaign.
All the best to Silvestre and hopefully he gets a speedy recovery.
