As if to add further insult to injury Chelsea just lost their game against Man Utd today at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Carlos Tevez & Louis Saha.New manager Avram Grant could not have wished for a tougher opening fixture - although Mourinho and Claudio Ranieri also played United in their first game in charge.
All the buzz before the game was the departure of Jose Mourinho and how the Chelsea players would react to it but it wasn’t to be their day as Obi Mikel went in hard on Patrice Evra in the 32nd minute which resulted in a direct red card to the Nigerian who was boo-ed of the pitch because of the tackle and because he snubbed United at the last moment (after signing an agreeement) to join Chelsea.
Things got worst for the post-Mourinho Chelski team as Carlos Tevez seemingly chose the best time to score his first Premier League goal for Man Utd and he did it with virtually the last touch of the first half.
The second half began slowly, with both sides seemingly happy with the status quo.
Although United had the bulk of the possession and territory, they created few genuine chances.
Giggs volleyed over again following a magnificent lofted through ball from Michael Carrick, while Rooney tested Cech’s alertness with a long shot.
Shevchenko rarely saw 90 minutes’ action under Mourinho and nothing changed in Grant’s first game, as he was withdrawn for Salomon Kalou before the hour mark.Ben Haim tugged back substitute Saha in the box on 89 minute and the Frenchman gladly took and scored the resulting penalty, remarkably making him United’s current top scorer (2 goals) even though he has featured for less than 90 minutes in total this season.

As a Liverpool fan, I have to admit to feeling quietly smug when I heard the news of Mourinho leaving. They have lost a great manager! Hard to replace someone like that
