After all the speculation of who will suceed Mourinho at Chelsea it looks like the west london club will settle for (at least for this season) Ajax’s boss Henk ten Cate.The Blues were understood to have offered Ten Cate a £2.1m-a-year salary to join forces with Avram Grant in a complicated managerial structure at Stamford Bridge, which would see current assistant Steve Clarke exit the club.

A statement on Chelsea’s official website read: “Chelsea first team coach Avram Grant has made it publicly clear several times that he intends to strengthen his backroom team in addition to his assistant coach Steve Clarke.

“One of the scenarios Avram is considering is a team containing a British assistant coach in Steve and a foreign assistant coach, a system the first team are already familiar with.”
