Carlos Tevez broke the deadlock with a magnificent effort early in the second half, before Cristiano Ronaldo added two more and Wayne Rooney headed another eight minutes from the end.
United though have been rocked by injuries to Wes Brown, John O’ Shea, Vidic and Saha.
Vidic and O’Shea were both forced to come off in the first half, Brown is sidelined because of a knee problem and Saha could not take his place on the bench after pulling up in the warm-up.
However United have conceeded the least amount of goals (2), Liverpool also have conceeded just two but they have played 2 games less.
