Now, this is an interesting piece of news, Becks the Goldenballs has now said that he wants to continue to play with England until the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he said this after winning his 98th cap for his country in Friday’s 1-0 win over Austria and he is in line to win his 99th against Croatia on Wednesday night.
I like Beckham, he’s a good role model, he’s proven his critics wrong over and over again and he actually won stuff with Man Utd and Real Madrid however i feel his playing days are numbered,he would be 35-years-old by 2010 and even if he does make it i highly doubt he will play a single game and that’s because a combination of his age, the players coming through the England ranks and because he really isn’t in a “competitive” league in the MLS (compared to anywhere in Europe), i think those three factors will play an important role unless somehow he can maintain his fitness and yet again prove everyone wrong.
“I want to play in the next World Cup. That is a big goal for me and an enormous challenge,” Beckham told the Sunday Mirror.
“I believe I can do it. I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t mean it.”
Beckham believes his decision to play in MLS will not affect his chances of continuing his international career.
“Contrary to some people’s claims, I didn’t leave European football too early,” added Beckham.
“I won’t retire. I will always make myself available for my country. That hasn’t changed. I would rather be stuck on 99 caps and England qualify, than win 100 caps and we don’t make it.”
Interesting Becks Facts:
Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that he “practiced with a discipline to achieve an accuracy that other players wouldn’t care about”. He maintained his training routine at Real Madrid and even when his relationship with management was strained in early 2007, Ramon Calderon and Fabio Capello praised Beckham for maintaining his professionalism and commitment to the club.
Beckham was the first England player ever to collect two red cards and the first England captain to be sent off.[76] Beckham’s most notorious red card was during the 1998 FIFA World Cup: after Argentina’s Diego Simeone had fouled him, Beckham lashed out with his leg and the Argentine fell. England went on to lose the game on penalties.
For Real Madrid he amassed 41 yellow cards and 4 red cards.
Beckham has also been described as a “gentleman” when referring to his demeanour on the pitch. During his time as England captain, Beckham helped to keep Wayne Rooney’s temper in check on several occasions.
