Scotland defender Alan Hutton has joined Tottenham Hotspur from Rangers for around £9 million after agreeing personal terms.
He has signed a four-year contract and is Spurs’ second major acquisition of the week, following Middlesbrough centre-back Jonathan Woodgate.
The 23-year-old right-back made 122 appearances for Rangers over five years, and has also made six appearances for his country.
Rangers accepted an offer earlier in January but Hutton turned Spurs down, only to reconsider when offered an improved deal.
It has also become clear that Pascal Chimbonda has little future at White Hart Lane, meaning Hutton is all but assured of first-team football.
I think Spurs has spent wisely this January, their attacking form has been impressive but what often let them down was thier defence, with Woodgate and Hutton hopefully Spurs can get back on track.
