Portsmouth have signed Jerome Thomas From Charlton on a season long loan deal, and will probably sign him on a permanent deal if he impresses at the club. Thomas was sold by Arsenal to Charlton for £100,000 a few seasons ago, but has impressed in the Championship. I’m not convinced how well he will do at Portsmouth though, playing at a much higher level.
Portsmouth have also apparently accepted a £3 million offer for central midfielder Pedro Mendes from SPL side Rangers. With Portsmouth already having sold Muntari to Inter Milan, Redknapp will no-doubt need to bring in some players to strengthen the squad again.
Gabriel Agbonlahor has obviously been impressed with the goings-on at Villa and has signed a new 4 year deal to stay at the Midlands club. John Carew signed a 1 year contract extension only on Thursday, and now Gabby has decided to commit himself to his local club at a very promising time.
Newcastle United have finally confirmed the deal to sign Argentine defender Fabricio Coloccini from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna for an undisclosed fee. Coloccini is sure to add stability and strength to the Newcastle back-line, but I still think the club are due for another struggle this season. They have brought in just a couple of players, and I don’t think this will be enough for the club to progress to the level that they should be at.
Julio Baptista has ended his struggle at Real Madrid by signing for Italian giants Roma for an initial £7.1 million fee. Baptista also had an unsuccesful time on loan in the Premiership with Arsenal, but this time around it didn’t appear that many English sides were interested with the Brazilian forward.
