James Milner was on top form for Newcastle last night as they beat Coventry City 3-2 in the Carling Cup, but the young English winger doesn’t see his future being at Newcastle and so has decided to hand in a transfer request. This news will no doubt be frowned upon by Keegan and all the fans of the club, who feel Milner had an important part to play in helping the club to progress. However the news is sure to delight Martin O’Neil, who had previously made an offer to bring Milner to Aston Villa, believed to be in the region of £7 million. Sources suggest that Newcastle United will hold out until an offer of at least £9 million is made for the 22 year old.
Anton Ferdinand has completed his medical at Sunderland and has signed for the club on a 4 year deal. Although the fee is undisclosed, we reported a few days ago that it was around the £8 million mark.
Blackburn Rovers have brought another Australian international to the club, signing 28 year-old midfielder Vince Grella from Torino for around £4 million. Grella had been playing in Italy and Serie A for around 10 years now, so he can’t be a bad player…
Chelsea chief-executive Peter kenyon has stated that the club expect to sign Robinho in the next 48 hours. This news is sure to alert the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, who will no doubt be worried about the current strength of the Chelsea squad.
Gareth Barry has also announced that he will be staying with Aston Villa for the immediate future (whatever this means). Liverpool were trying to sign Barry from Villa but couldn’t agree on a fee, and so Barry has now come out and said that he will be staying at the club. Apparently Barry made this decision over 2 weeks ago, although we’re not too sure. We just think Liverpool gave up trying in the end. But surely this is great news for Villa fans, and maybe for Liverpool fans too, who felt Barry was far too over-priced.
