Kevin Keegan has now definitely resigned from his position as manager of Newcastle United. Keegan had been absent from training once again today, fuelling the speculation that he was about to leave the club for the second time in his career.

Kevin Keegan officially resigns as manager of Newcastle United

It was first thought that Keegan had been sacked by Newcastle, then it was thought that he had actually resigned. Keegan insisted through the League Managers Association that he had not actually resigned, leading everyone to believe that he must have been sacked.

It has now been confirmed that Keegan did resign, stating that he can’t stay at the club when they sign players that he does not want. He went on to say that at a football club a manager must have the right to manage and that clubs should not impose upon any manager any player that he does not want.

Fair play to King Kev, it was good seeing him back in the Premiership, but it’s a great shame to see things end this way with his beloved Newcastle United.
