Newcastle United have kept up the shocks by handing ex-Wimbledon manager, Joe Kinnear the reins at the Geordie club. Kinnear has been officially appointed until the end of October in a shock new twist in the saga at St James’ Park.
This is another shock for the faithful at the club who want to see the team on the back pages for the right reasons. They are sure to be underwhelmed by the arrival of Kinnear. The new man said about his appointment, “I am very excited by this challenge. I am aware that the new owners have Kevin Keegan and possibly Alan Shearer parked around the corner. I understand investors are about to buy the club, Mike Ashley told me openly. I will be here for six to eight games.” It looks like King Kev could be coming back yet again. This man comes back like Rick Waller comes back for desserts.
There have been rumours in the press for the last week or so that there is a Nigerian consortium that are going to take over the club with a £350m takeover fund. The take-over is apparently very close and the club are almost certain it will happen. But the fans in Newcastle have had so many ups & downs over the last month, they will be happy when everything is done and dusted. They will be as happy as when they finally got Titus Bramble to leave the club. Kinnear is a good manager who proved himself through the nineties with a limited budget. He even made Vinnie Jones look decent for a few years. We should call him Jose Kinnear if he can do that regularly. He is not thick and he knows his arrival means that the fans won’t be holding out welcome banners for him. He says on the subject, “The fans will be disappointed, I understand that, but I can’t do anything about. I will just be doing my very best because I am desperate to get back into the game.”
The next month or so will be interesting to watch Newcastle, while all the fans wait for their King to get back on his throne.
