Spurs continued their worrying form yesterday with a comprehensive 2-0 defeat at Fratton Park.  This leaves Spurs boss Juande Ramos fearing for his job.  The London club are now bottom of the table and without a win in six games.

This was another dire performance by Spurs.  With just Roman Pavlyuchenko up front, they struggled to create any real chances.  The Russian looked so lost at times you wondered if he was a fan that had somehow wandered onto the pitch. Against a Pompey side who had conceded a lot of goals recently it seemed confusing to play one up front and not to have a real go at the Portsmouth defensive line.

Predictably, Former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe put Pompey ahead when he easily put away a penalty after Jermaine Jenas needlessly handled a Glen Little free kick. This is typical of Jenas. He looked so gormless after this howler, he looked liked he was trying to beat Titus Bramble in a stupid competition.  Peter Crouch nodded in Pompey’s second after Gomez had parried a shot. Crouch looked sharp all afternoon, as did Defoe. These two will get better and better for the Southern club.

The heat is on for Ramos and he made a statement after the match, “Whether I survive is something for the chairman and the board to decide but I’m not hurt (by the fans’ abuse). What hurts is not winning matches.”

It will hurt even more if Spurs do not start picking up the points soon.
