After his second half display on Saturday for England, Ben Foster’s tally of appearances at Wembley in 2009, equalled that of his at Old Trafford. Bizarre eh?
Foster has seen his first-team opportunities limited at United, thanks to the outstanding performance of Edwin van der Sar. (though after the last two games, he might be in with more of a shout…) Capello, however, seems to like the lad, and it would seem he is second behind James for the number one jersey.

He has started only 6 games this season; most coming in cup competitions. However, two of those have been at Wembley; the Carling Cup Final for United and on Saturday for England against Slovakia. Certainly an achievement of some sort!

Foster said of his call-up;

“It was a bit out of the blue to get called up and then to play some part in the game. It was a great display and result and I was glad to be part of it.”

It was Foster’s second cap … a full two years after his England debut. He added: “You can’t lose belief, I’ve had a few injuries but, once you are back to full fitness, you want to push into your team and then England.

Foster admits he needs to be playing football; “Regular first-team football is a must. It’s going to be a big season for me next year.” Whether that be at Old Trafford or elsewhere, remains to be seen.
