It emerged today that Southampton have been unable to pay the wages of their players or staff for May, due to the continual financial problems of the club.

In a meeting on Thursday, office staff were told their wages would not be going in for May, but were asked to continue working for another week as a “good-will gesture”, while the club continue to try and find a buyer.

Southampton are relying on the sale of Nathan Dyer to Swansea to help them out in the short-term. It is expected the Welsh side will be willing to pay in the region of £400,000 for the winger, who was on loan at the Liberty Stadium last season.

The club is currently in talks with four potenital investors, and it will be hoping they can agree a takeover as soon as possible. Failure to do so may see the collapse of the South Coast football club – which would be a sad day not only for those concerned, but for football in general.
