Man Utd has struck an accord with Tourism Malaysia as a new sponsorship partner, meaning my fav team will be visiting my country next year, and what a time too since Malaysia will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary of independence.
This is quite an exciting news for me, i was there in the Bukit Jalil Stadium when United were here back in 2001, it was at that game a certain Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Juan Sebastian Veron made their debut for Man Utd, and what an experience it was (even though Malaysia were thrash….).
I remember Paul Scholes taking some practise shots during halftime…i can tell you for sure he’s shot are really powerful, i almost fell the force of it as i was sitting behind the goalpost and the shot flew pass by me..simply amazing!, and of course the guy a few rows behind me tried to keep the ball but to no avail as the stewards spotted him 😛
Anywayz,this sponsorship deal which amounted to £2million will futher strenghten Man Utd’s hold on Asia especially South East Asia.Malaysian tourism minister YB Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said “Manchester United have more fans in our part of the world than Chelsea and we feel this sponsorship deal offers us the best chance to promote Malaysia worldwide”
I agree with that, there are more United fans than any other here in Malaysia.
Here is what Man Utd chief executive David Gill had to say about the deal:
“We have always had a huge following in that region for main reasons; history, heritage and achievement,” he said.
“The success of the Premiership has also been an important factor and it will be good to have the chance to visit the region again.
“As with all our tours, we will not just turn up, play a game and leave again. It will be a genuine attempt to project ourselves to supporters who very rarely have the opportunity to see us live.”
