This is a move which has been floating around for quite some time but it seems to have been made official today, with Arsenal announcing the signing of Olivier Giroud the French striker.
Olivier Giroud arrives with a pretty big reputation from French side Montpellier, the 25 year old scoring 21 times as Montpellier claimed the French title. Unfortunately he didn’t get to feature much during the Euro’s, with Benzema and Ribery both nailing down places in the side instead, but you can check out the youngster in the video below.
Interestingly, I’m wondering if this move is paving the way for Robin Van Persie to leave for the likes of Juventus. I bet some teams would be looking for a cut-price deal given his performance in the Euro’s, but maybe Wenger and co are quietly delighted with the way the Dutch, and Van Persie, performed in general as this may have put off some clubs from making a bid. I’m not sure if this does signal the end for RVP as they’re probably more likely to get rid of Chamakh, Bendtner, Gervinho, Chu-Young, Arsharvin and Carlos Vela. Thats quite a list of attacking players, with Giroud and Podolski the only confirmed signings so far.
