Berbatov Linked With Sunderland

Sunderland manager Martin O’Neil is interested in signing Manchester United striker Dmitar berbatov, now surplus to requirements since the arrival of Robin Van Persie.

The Black Cats have reportedly put in a bid of £5 million for the Man United striker, but there are a few other parties interested such as the Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg. If Berbatov goes to Sunderland he’d become yet another ex-Man Utd player at the Stadium of Light, with the arrival of Louis Saha from Spurs another recent addition.

Berbatov is very much in the shadows at United especially since the arrival of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal, with Ferguson stating that his attack force will be consisting of Danny Wellbeck, Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Javier Hernandez. The rumoured £5 million fee is quite a significant drop on the £30 million paid for Berbatov from Spurs a couple of years ago.
