So Joey Barton has been suspended by Newcastle United, after he dared engage in a raging row with Toon boss, Alan Shearer, in the aftermath of his sending off against Liverpool on Sunday. Not really a surprise is it?
Barton was given his marching orders after a terrible tackle on Xabi Alonso, which led to the Liverpool midfielder leaving the pitch on a stretcher. Post-match in the changing rooms, Barton had a furious bust-up with Shearer, which has led to the club taking immediate action.
A Magpie’s statement said, “Joey Barton has been suspended from this club until further notice. The club will be making no further comment at this time.”
Shearer’s anger at the dismissal was all to evident after the game. In his post match interview, Shearer said;
“I wasn’t happy, I was bitterly disappointed at the way it happened. I asked him to stay calm in the heat of the battle but it was a stupid tackle and he deserved to be sent off.”
When probed about Barton’s future with Newcastle, Shearer did little to play down his anger, by stating;
“It would be wrong to discuss his future now, but I am very unhappy.”
Newcastle are in deep trouble, and Barton’s ill-discipline has done little to help the cause. It’s difficult to see Barton playing for Newcastle again whilst Shearer in at the helm. It’s having character’s like Barton, that have got Newcastle in such mess, time and time again. They seem to attract the players who are all too willing to be trigger-happy with the self-destruct button…Messers Bellamy, Dyer and Bowyer spring to mind.
Joey Barton has been in the last chance saloon for so long now, it’s about time he was given his marching orders and barred from coming ever back. We all make mistakes yes, but Barton has made just that one-too-many. Behaviour such as his, tarnishes football and serve as no role-model to the millions of children watching every week.
It’s a shame Barton doesn’t realise just how lucky and privileged he is. He has talent, but is unwilling to accept help from anyone who tries to give it to him on his way. Not many players get the chance to play in the biggest league in the world; Barton has had more than most – but he still seems intent on blowing each and every one of them that comes his way.$
I would be interested to hear you views on this one – should Joey Barton be allowed to play for Newcastle again?

Didn’t this happen days ago? I am pretty sure it happened Sunday, today is Wednesday. Talk about behind the times.
