Despite going down early on thanks to a shocking defensive error by David Luiz, Chelsea managed to avoid total calamity and see off Cardiff City by a somewhat inflated score line of 4-1 at Stamford Bridge this afternoon. As previously mentioned, the match got off to a terrible start for the Blues with Luiz not going after a ball in no-man’s land for whatever reason and allowing Cardiff youngster Jordan Munch in on goal to chip past Petr Cech and give the visitors a shock lead.
Chelsea got more involved with the match as it went on though and were quite literally gifted an equalizer on 33 minutes as Samuel Eto’o took advantage of some quite careless bouncing of the ball by Cardiff keeper David Marshall and poked it loose, eventually resulting in Eden Hazard smashing into an empty net.
That made it both 1-1 in terms of gaffs for either team and 1-1 on the scoreboard heading into the halftime break. The 2nd half was a completely different story though, as Chelsea went on to assert their dominance through goals from Eto’o, Oscar, and a 2nd from Hazard as they went on to roll over their Welsh opponents by a 3 goal margin as Marshall also managed to have poor efforts on both Oscar and Hazrad’s second-half goals, marking an evening the Scotsman will want to forget.
