Southampton continued their shockingly fantastic start to the new campaign on Saturday evening, as they knocked off Fulham 2-0 at the St. Mary’s Stadium behind goals from Ricky Lambert and Jay Rodriguez. The former’s goal arrived on 21 minutes as the England man nodded home at the back post following a fabulous flick-on header by Rodriguez, who ironically enough, was assisted by Lambert come the 43rd minute for his goal, a similar header from a more central position but with the same result.
Fulham failed to fire on the night and were unable to recreate their magic from last Monday at Selhurst Park, with Dimitar Berbatov unable to shape the match in any way and Pajtim Kasami unable to pull another wonder goal out of his arse again as Martin Jol’s side returned to reality while Mauricio Pochettino’s are still living in dreamland, sights set on future European nights.
