There are two ways we can win the World Cup.First of all revamp the team. Secondly, replace Roy Hodgson. Both radical suggestions but what is there to lose? The FA Chairman, Greg Dyke has implied we won’t survive the ‘group of death’ and the last thing every English football fan wants to hear from pundits or the England manager is ‘anything beyond the group stage is a bonus’. It’s been said too many times before.
Here’s the plan. Make Rooney captain and play him in midfield. He won’t argue if he is given the captain’s armband. Next, adopt the tactics used by Sir Alf Ramsey back in 1966. when he told his players “Every time you get the ball, pass it to Bobby” (Charlton) . So next year for ‘Bobby’ read ‘Wayne’.
Next, build the team around Rooney. Add a central trio of Wilshire, Barkley and Townsend with Sturridge and Walcott up front. Smalling, Cahill, Jones and Baines can provide a solid back four with Joe Hart standing tall in goal.
The average age of the team is 24 and the average number of caps is 24 so there is a blend of youth and experience.
These players have natural attacking qualities. These players are not afraid to take on opponents, beat them and go on to score.
And the manager? Sorry Roy you are far too predictable and conservative. Let’s be a lot more adventurous. There’s nothing to lose, especially if we are doomed to be on an early flight back according to the ‘experts’.
Gary Neville should take charge with brother Phil assisting. They are both young enough to be able to communicate effectively with the players. They both know international football. What they lack in experience they make up for in enthusiasm.
Let’s not go to Brazil and play the predictable long ball game otherwise we will be on that early flight back.
