Fair play to Howard Webb for admitting he made a mistake. It takes a big man to do that. It wasn't a penalty, though you could see his reasons for giving it. I do actually think he is our best referee, and no doubt he will continue to prove that.

Howard Webb's admitted that he made a mistake, I'm quite surprised by that. He seems a top bloke, and I think other ref's wouldn't have backed down on their decision. I still do think it was a very close decision for him to make during the match. Webb went on to say that everyone makes mistakes, and that if you show him someone who's never made a mistake you will be showing him someone who's never done anything. Very philosophical.

Totally agree with you mr-potato-head. If I was the ref then I think I would have given it, it was only after replays that I saw it wasn't a penalty. Get over it.

Sorry but I really don't understand all the fuss surrounding this penalty. In my opinion it was not an obvious decision for the ref to make. You can clearly see that Carrick gets his toe to the ball and diverts it before the goalie takes him down, who then goes on to get fingertips on the ball. Personally I think it was a lucky penalty but I can clearly see why it was given by the ref, simply because Carrick got a big touch on the ball to take it wide of Gomez. Carrick wouldn't have scored but he may have been able to keep the ball in play and set up a goal, but I don't agree with people like Craig Burley who say its a disgraceful decision etc.
