Sheffield United completed their comeback to the Premiership after an absence of 12 years with a fantastic 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
Liverpool by far were the more attacking side and could have won the game on many occasions had it not been for the combination of poorly taken chances and the brilliance of United’s goalkeeper.

Rob Hulse open up the scoring with a haeder in the 46th minute thanks to a superb David Unsworth’s free-kick.Liverpool on the other hand had ad news to deal with earlier in the half as both John Arne Riise and Jamie Carragher twisted their ankles and had to be substitured in the first half,a definite blow to Rafa Benitez especially with the game against Macabbi Haifa in the Champions League looming.
The goal by Rob Hulse seemed to push Liverpool foward and the pace of new boy Bellamy was something Sheffield United dealt with brilliantly as Bellamy failed to get his debut goal, but the breakthrough for Liverpool came in the 70th minute after Steven Gerrard had been caught by Chris Morgan in the box and Robbie Fowler duly tucked home to put both sides level on 1-1.
In truth i don’t think a penalty should have not been given, it was a clean challenge for the ball and in fact if it was deemed a penalty (as it turned out) than Chris Morgan should have been sent off or at least receive a yellow card!.
One thing is for sure though,Sheffield United has proven that they are a team to be respected and if they continue this kind of display they will be far away from the title of “whipping boys” that so many have rumored they would be.
The plus side for them is that now that they have Liverpool out of the way they ‘only’ have Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea to be worried about and they will meet all three before Christmas and if they can muster a similar result from the 3 matches who knows here they will end up? maybe they’ll do a “Wigan”?
But it’s still early days yet…….
Premiership..got to LOVE it!!
