What a night it was for Man Utd as they recovered from their 2-1 derby loss to Man City with style by beating Arsenal 4-0, nobody in their right mind would have predicted that scoreline.
The game was hyped up about the two top goal scorers in the Premiership – Ronaldo and Adebayor, but amazingly Sir Alex opted to rest Ronaldo in view of the upcoming game agaisnt Lyon in the Champions League and Wenger rested Adebayor (till the second half).
Utd started the game with all guns ablazing and Arsenal never actually recovered, in fact if i am being honest i can’t remember a single Arsenal attack that forced Van Der Sar into a save, it was going to be Utd’s night by the way they started the game.
Wayne Rooney got thing started when he headed in the opening goal before Flecther scored with yet another header, while Nani esnured Utd when into the break with a 3-0 lead.
The second hald was no different with Utd totally dominating the game, and when Eboue got red carded for a high boot on Evra things got only worst for Arsenal, it just wasn’t their day, they didn’t produce any sort of silky passing movement they are known for, Fabregas was quiet through the game and even though Adebayor was brought in he made little impact, in fact he recieved a yellow card for blatant diving in the box.
A week ago Sven Goran Ericsson said the “formula” to beating Man Utd is to stop Ronaldo from playing his type of game, I wonder what Sven has to say about last night’s game when Utd beat the current Premiership leader comfortably without Ronaldo even being on the bench!.
The truth is Arsenal was not having their best day, maybe Kolo Toure and Eboue was rushed back into action too fast while the absence of Almunia and Sagna might have played a role as well.
In any case Utd are now through to the next round and it looks like only Chelsea pose a threat as Liverpool also crashed out of the tournament.
