Saturday, 31st October 2009
Kick Off : 12:45 GMT
Venue : The Emirates, Arsenal
The first north-London derby of the season comes in the lunch-time kick-off on Saturday as Spurs travel to Arsenal, with both teams level in points in the league, and everyone hoping for as entertaining a game as last season, which ended in a 4-4 draw.
Arsenal have played 9 games and are on 19 points while Spurs have played 10 and also have 19 points, so if Arsenal win or draw then they will go above Tottenham and will still have a game in hand.
Arsenal’s last league outing resulted in an unlucky 2-2 draw with West Ham, with Arsenal surprisingly throwing away a 2 goal lead at half time. Manager Arsene Wenger will be hoping that his team can hold onto any lead with the game against Tottenham Hotspur, another London rival.
Meanwhile Tottenham’s last league game resulted in a shock 1-0 loss at home to Stoke City, so manager Harry Redknapp will be hoping for a much better performance this time around. Spurs didn’t play badly against Stoke, they just couldn’t find the break-through goal with the Stoke deputy goalie Simonsen putting in an inspired performance.
Arsenal recently beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Carling Cup, and Arsene rested many key players of his squad who he will be recalling for the match with Spurs. Cesc Fabregras, Andrei Arsharvin and Robin Van Persie are all likely to return to the Arsenal lineup. Nasri and Eduardo will also be pushing to start the game after impressing in the Carling Cup match.
Unfortunately for Arsenal they will probably be without goalkeeper Fabianski who is injured, and Theo Walcott, Denilson, Rosicky and Wilshere are all out with injuries of their own. Arsenal could recall Manuel Almunia to the side, replacing the stand-in keeper Vito Mannone.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp rested several key players for their Carling Cup victory against Everton and he will be recalling the likes of Crouch, Keane and Jermaine Defoe. Pavylchenko will have to be content with a place on the bench.
Tottenham are unlikely to have Jonathan Woodgate who is still recovering from a nasty head injury, and midfielder Luka Modric will be unavailable through injury. David Bentley could make a surprise return to the team after putting in an impressive display against Everton, with Bentley also scoring a memorable goal last season at the game at the Emirates, with Arsenal also being his old club.
My Prediction: 2-2
