Saturday, 9th January 2010
Kick Off : 17:30 GMT
Venue : St Andrews, Birmingham

In only 1 of 3 remaining Premier League matches not to have sucumbed to the dreadful weather conditions today, Premier League champions Manchester United travel to Birmingham on the back of their humiliating 1-0 loss at home to Leeds United in the FA Cup, with Ferguson’s men desperate to set things straight in the league having been knocked out of the cup competition.

Despite Man United’s desire to put on a real performance after their shock defeat at the hands of the League One side, they will be given no easy treatment by a Birmingham City side who have been the real talking point of the Premier League season after their promotion from the Championship.

Birmingham City are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League matches and find themselves in the unlikely position of 8th in the table, just 1 point behind Liverpool. Some Birmingham fans are even starting to imagine a place in Europe next season, but there will still be a long way for the side to go yet.

Stephen Carr will return to the Birmingham City side after serving his one match suspension. Manager Alex McCleish is likely to recall many of his first team stars having been rested for the FA Cup draw against Nottingham Forest, with Bowyer, Larson and McFadden all returning to their positions in midfield, whilst Christian Benitez is also likely to return to the side up front.

Manchester United are likely to make many changes to the side that were defeated by Leeds at the weekend, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson very critical of his older players during that game.

Patrice Evra is likely to be the only change made to the United defence with Ferdinand and Vidic both just a week away from fitness. Antonio Valencia, Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher are all likely to be installed back into the Man United midfield, whilst it remains to be seen whether Dmitar Berbatov will keep his place up front after another quiet display at the weekend. Van Der Sar is still out with a knee injury so Tomasz Kusckaz is likely to retain his position in goal for Manchester United.

My Prediction: 1-2
