The Blues are leading the EPL’s title race and they are five points clear from second place after their big derby win over Manchester United. They are highly unlikely to allow a slip up at Stamford Bridge, on Saturday at 3 PM, against the struggling Wolves’ side. Chelsea recorded a fine victory against Man U and their legendary captain John Terry came up big when his side needed him most, as he has done for so many years. The centre back scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute to win a crucial victory for the Blues over their traditional rivals.
Chelsea side has now separated themselves from the rest of the pack as they sit on top of the table in first place, ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United. The blues have yet to lose at home this season and have a fantastic goal difference of plus 21.
The quality and depth of Chelsea’s squad brings fear to any opposition and even with Lampard, Drogba, Ashley Cole and Bosingwa all out of commission through injuries, Carlo Ancelotti may elect to test a few of the lads who don’t see much of a playing time on Saturday.
However, Michael Essien, has now returned to England earlier than planned as he failed to report to Ghana’s squad for their friendly match with Angola on November 18th.
Wolverhampton find themselves in the relegation zone, as they currently sit in the 19th spot in the table. The EPL’s newcomers were expected to struggle, but their situation is worsening.
Mick McCarthy’s team has already lost six matches, but has shown signs of promise. The Wolves have drawn three of their last four matches while facing strong opposing sides in Everton, Aston Villa and away against Stoke, who is a strong team playing at home.
A victory would come as a big morale boost for a side that have not won a game since September, although playing against a mighty Chelsea team at Stamford Bridge, there is a real risk of a massacre in this Chelsea vs Wolves match. The last league encounters between these two sides date back to the 2003/04 season. That season’s game at Stamford Bridge ended in a 5-2 Chelsea win, whilst the rematch was even worse, with the Blues obliterating the Wolves 5-0. Chelsea will be the massive favourites ahead of Saturday’s match and rightly so. The difference between these Chelsea and Wolves sides is impossible to ignore.
